Following the announcement of Delphi’s new C3i injector and authorised repair programme, leading diesel service centre Reef Fuel Injection Services (RFI) has commissioned a new Hartridge CRI (Common Rail Injector) machine at its Germiston facilities. This makes RFI the only service centre in Gauteng able to conduct Delphi authorised testing and coding of C3i injectors on a CRI-PC.
The new C3i injector has an extended characterisation code that helps the engine run with optimum efficiency and provides superb “first-time” accuracy of injector performance and improved precision.
CRI technology is at the forefront of today’s fuel injection engine technology increasing injection pressures to ensure more efficient fuel burning which, in turn, releases cleaner emissions. It also allows for injection processes to be adjusted according to engine demands to improve engine efficiency and power.
“We are also able to test and code the C3i’s predecessor, the C2i, on the new machine,” Warren Hauser, RFI workshop manager, says. “Both these injectors need to be recoded after being remanufactured to allow the engine control unit (ECU) of the diesel engine to be correctly identified. The result is an OEM-approved repair that won’t affect the vehicle’s warranty.
“Another significant advantage is that the new machine offers motor dealers and OEMs the option to have injectors remanufactured rather than replacing them with new injectors which achieves real cost savings. All injectors are remanufactured with genuine OEM parts and are coded to the appropriate application with full test reports on the finished injectors.”
The Cri-PC at RFI is a four-line configuration capable of testing and coding four injectors at once time, compared to the individual testing of the past, across the range of Delphi, Denso, Siemens and Bosch injectors. The test programme runs the Hartridge software called IRIS, which includes a 16-stage test cycle.
Established in 1975, RFI is an acknowledged Caterpillar Fuel system specialist and is an authorised service agent for all five leading diesel fuel injection systems – Bosch, Zexel, Delphi, Denso and Stanadyne.
“We operate one of the best equipped service, diagnostic and repair facilities in the country, using OEM equipment and genuine parts,” Hauser says. “We continuously invest in technology, equipment and training for our personnel. All our test equipment is checked and maintained to SABS 0166 and ISO 9002 standards.”
